If it is one month old try returning it to the store where you bought it. Tell them this is the first time you tried to play Blu-rays in it and it doesn't work. Bring the movie with you. They may take it back as a manufacturing defect and give you a new one.
Even if you have to send it back to Sony I don't know why it would cost you $100. It should still be under warranty so I would think fixing it would be on Sony's dime.
Either way I would try to return it for a new one first. From my experience with a few different PS2 systems, you can fix laser issues but it is only temporary and will come back.
