Default Salary Questions

How do I come up with a salary expectation range for a job I've never done before?

I went to workopolis and found 5 jobs that were very similar (they didn't have this specific job listed). I then got the high and low for each job. Basically I added them all up and averaged out the highs and lows to get the range. But I still don't know if it's even in the same ball park.

What should I take into consideration? I don't want to low ball myself but I also don't want to go back with a number that's too high.

Do a search on monster and see if they have any listings for the job with a salary. Or post up the job description here...someone might have an idea.

www.salary.com doesn't help me because it's an american site. I did however, find some useful information on a few Canadian sites (monster being one of them).

I also have a couple of friends who work in HR so I emailed them and they liked the number I came up with. I sent it off....now just waiting to hear back!

Good luck. How's the economy going up in Canuk land? I hope it's not as bad as it is down here.

Remember to figure how much you need to live on.
Add in what benifits they are offering, and what are self provided.

Don't short yourself!
