Default Heads up display for motorcycles

http://www.reconinstruments.com/

Apparently this company is doing some beta testing of a clip (along the lines of Bluetooth comms sets) on HUD for motorcycle helmets. It sounds interesting, but I wonder even if the display is in your helmet, how distracting would it be, and how much better is it than a normal set of gauges plus a bolt on GPS?

Looking through their manual it looks like they have the bluetooth, gps nav, audio, android connect, and interface set up already. it shouldnt take much to adapt it to a helmet as a platform and make some software adjustments to adapt to the needs of the motorcycling community.

If it was a true HUD with the data projected on the visor Id be interested but If I have to look down anyway Ill just use my instruments.

Doing all that, there is no way the battery will be usable for more than a quick ride.

I think it's a horrible idea. Why do people feel the need for constant interaction? I think it would be an incredible distraction.

Distraction or not, the interaction is ridiculous.

Motorcycles used to be about freedom and feel; seat of your pants type riding, get lost on a new trail type touring.

Nowadays, they've become 2-wheeled cars.

If done right it could be useful. I always liked the Corvette HUD.

A well designed simplified GPS HUD that was smart to reduce in visibility/size when not needed would be great for touring/off road.
