Default Should I pick up this Remington 700?

Pawn shop across the street has a 700 in .270 with a Leupold scope (don't know what power) for $454. Looks to be in good condition. Wifey has been wanting me to pick up a solid rifle, and I'm thinkin' you can't go wrong at that price for a 700.

Thoughts?

Price sounds good.

( here's my cynical optimism wondering why it's so cheap )
Look through the scope paying attention to the edges, make sure the focus is good everywhere.

Check out the bolt face for imprinting of the cartridge ( transfer of the cartridge "could" mean excessive pressure hand loads were used )

Check the safety for proper operation in the safe position.

Check the barrel with a bright light for pits or excessive erosion at the chamber mouth/neck.

Hope it checks out :thumb:

That's basically what I have.
700 ADL, .270 Win, Leupold 3-9x40
Dad got it for me when I was.. umm.. 12? I forget... it was around then.
It hasn't brought down as many deer as I'd like, but that's no fault of the rifle's.

Not a bad price, I picked up mine in 30-06 with a Leupold scope for about $500 new a couple years ago.
Give it a good once over then take it to the range and put some rounds through it.

I keep hearing about this but I've also read that the conditions under which this occurs aren't something a conscientious firearms handler would be apt to replicate.
If it really worries someone that much, there are several aftermarket trigger assemblies which offer an improved safety mechanism (besides being an all-around better trigger).

They have issues, but the 700 is the Army's sniper rifle and has been used around the world with success. A 700 VTR in .308 is my next purchase.
