But it's still an automatic, just one that can be shifted manually. It's not a manual transmission, that's a totally different animal that isn't hydraulically powered the way an automatic is.

Does it somehow lose a gear when shifted manually?

No overdrive, perhaps?

I can't believe people even use the word overdrive anymore. Shit should have died after the 80's.

Overdrive means that the transmission's main input shaft turns at less than 1:1 final drive. In a conventional trans, top gear slider engages the input shaft directly to the output shaft dogs for 1:1 ratio, and all other gears go through the countershaft for reduction.

An O/D trans uses a step up gearing in the countershaft to give better than 1:1

It's a mechanical term, not a fashion one, I can understand your confusion.

I already knew all that, but it's still a worthless term these days. 99.99999% of passenger cars have overdrive. And even if they didn't, nobody would notice or care. People started saying it back in the 70's when overdrives became more common to help save fuel. But now it's like saying your car has rack & pinion steering and bucket seats. No shit.

I think the listing of the INSIDE HOOD AND GAS RELEASE is to make you forget about the apparent lack of turn signals. I wouldn't touch it.

I think it's unfortunate that we've gotten to this age in technology and people still don't know how to turn the caps-lock off.
