I personally believe that this girl has some serious problems and should have some series counseling as part of her sentence.
I'm not for over-penalizing anyone but as to creating a monster, I would say that she's already got a head start on it if not already there.

Yea well I guess that we can either help her overcome her darker tendencies or we can lock her up with a bunch of animals that will bring out her yet untapped savagery.

Besides, here it comes, I've used bb guns, wrist rockets or just plain rocks in the committal of some pretty cruel acts against small animals in my life, so I guess that I too should be locked up, executed or beaten myself. I guess I just can't see destroying the remainder of this young girl's life over a kitten,

Dunno about the death penalty. She def shouldn't be allowed anywhere near an animal shelter even with 100% super vision. Anyone willing to torture a defenseless kitten has major issues.

I don't get kids hurting small creatures either. I never killed/maimed any animal intentionally. I went through a whole period where I wouldn't kill mosquitos (hard to do in Texas). I was also a vegetarian for a year (also hard to do in Texas).

I agree with AMJ - anyone comes near my pets and hurts them, bad things would happen. They aren't just objects to me. She used that little furry creature as a means to an end... to damage someone else. Sociopath in the making.

Maybe beaten Tig... But you'd like it too much.

To me, this isnt so much the fact that a kitten died, its the MANNER in which it died.

Its one thing to hunt for food or sport, but to intentionally torture and murder a creature, whether human or not, shows a severe malfunction and cannot be tolerated. The fact that she left so she wouldnt have to hear its suffering shows she knew it was wrong. If she was a sociopath, or pyscho she'd have stuck around to watch and enjoy.

Whats to stop her from graduating to bigger? Say torturing and murdering a friends or her own child? Kids are small, they fit in ovens and microwaves...and if the parent pissed her off, its ok right?

Yea me and almost every other kid I knew... I've seen kids tie firecrackers to dog/cats tails, sling cats by their tails, swerve their cars to hit a possum, throw stuff at animals of all types... hell, I even once saw some kids catch an animal on fire! It ran under a porch and the fucking house burned down! I've pulled legs off spiders, wings off flies and burned ants with a magnifying glass as well. Shit come to think of it maybe I am a serial killer in training myself... hmmm... Apparently, I'm the only one that's ever done anything mean to an animal in my life so...

Tig, you were one of those kids I fought with as a small child and reasoned and tricked out of your cruelty as a teen and adult. I never stand by and allow cruelty to happen and if I find out about it later, I address it with the child and parent. I go so far as to watch where I walk and save every creature (be it bug, spider, snake, etc) from being hurt or killed at every opportunity. Call me a sucker, but it makes me hurt to think of all the cruelty and harm children do b/c no one stopped them or taught them better.

So it's okay to hunt kittens for sport? Sweet because there's a few strays around here that are getting on my nerves!

I do believe that there should be some psychological evaluation here and definitely some punishment but execution, beatings, sodomy with a baseball bat? To even consider doing such things to a young girl....

I've plinked birds/snakes/squirrels/bunnies/various other creatures with pellet guns and no intention of eating them just for shits and giggles. Watch out, I am going to go on a mass murder spree.
