School traffic?

The China traffic jam thread got me thinking...

Who else has noticed a SIGNIFICANT increase in traffic since school started?

All the schools around here have started back in the last two weeks and my commute time (7 miles all local) has doubled. There seems to be 3x's as many cars on the road.

This is not kids/parents going to school. I don't go through a single school zone on my drive.

Who are all these people that have decided to return to the roads now that the kids are back in school? What were they doing all Summer?
