I likr riding solo, and I like riding with particular groups; my only limitation with groups is that if I'm unfamiliar with any of the riders, I'll hang in the back, and keep a bit of distance.
So my limitations are primarily weather related: Rain - if I'm already out and it starts raining, I'll keep going, but if it's already raining, I'll opt to cage it. Wind - hmmm, sustained winds over 25 mph, not my thing. Very common here April to June. Snow - no chance we'll get it but also no chance I'd ride in it. Heat - hmmmm, over 100, kinda miserable with the humidity, so I'd pass. Cold - colder than 38-40 (I have never found good winter gloves that I like). Fog - if visibility is under about 2 miles (esp early morning hours) I'll pass. Night - no issues here. I like night riding. Last edited by neebelung; 11-17-2009 at 07:54 AM.. |

Cold isnt much of a factor for me, I tolerate it rather well and just bundle up or fir eup the gerbings. Some mornings if I am commuting and its like high or mid 30's and am not feeling it I will take the car.
Bad winds i will also shut it down, I have to go over a bridge when working my side jobs so that can be sketchy. I roll the dice with rain, if I can make it to work dry and its not a ragin gmonsoon comming in later I will ride. Extreme heat, if I know I am doing straight hwy stuff and will be moving I will ride but if it look slike there will be traffic I will take the car. |

if I'm on a trip... there's nothing I won't ride in. if I'm at home though... I may just choose to pass this time... but I've ridden in snow, rain, hail, hurricaines, floods, freezing rain (always a favorite), fog...
to be honest... riding in that weather is fun for me... it's a challenge... I keep it slow enough that I'm not gonna get hurt too bad... and can pick it up and keep going if I do go down.... but I have a blast (as long as I'm wearing enough layers and warm! ) |

I've got alot of limits. First, heat. I dont ride above about 85. Fuck it, I'll take my Jeep and crank the AC. Riding isn't fun in heat. Cold. Cold sucks. Though, I'm riding in colder weather this year than I ever have. So, once the highs come down to the mid 40's I'll put it away. Used to be I'd only ride in sun between 60 and 85*.
Rain, I won't go out specifically in rain, unless I have to. And I have. Whatever. Not that big of a deal. Night doesn't bother me.

Snow/Ice
If it's already raining and I'm at home I'll cage it. I'll ride in the rain if I'm already out and it starts. Fog...got caught in it in the mountains with close to zero..ok about 20 feet of visibility and that was no fun but I managed. Hot...above 95...I'll cage it because I do wear full gear. Cold...below 50...I'll still ride but it's just not as fun. Below 40...I'll just cage it. I've ridden when it was in the 30's but like I said...just not as fun. Night time doesn't really bother me except in the back country due to an over abundance of deer in my area. I don't really do group riding much anymore...prefer just two or three or at the most four or five and that being people that I know and trust their habits/abilities. Usually it's just two or three of us. |

Cold weather (never seen Ice or snow, but those are a definite no).
Dark - I love night riding, but my night vision has gotten so bad its not worth the danger. Thats about it. If its a slight rain, no biggie, if its heavy and I have the right gear, theres no stopping me. If I dont have rain gear I might pull over or push through, depends on how froggy Im feeling. |

Ice or snow will keep me off the bike no matter what.
Other than that, it's dependent on what I'm doing. Commuting - I'll cage it if it is raining when I leave or I know for a fact it's going to be raining on my way home. Going on a trip - Rain doesn't bother me at all, so it's just ice and snow that would keep me home. Heat/cold doesn't really bother me all that much. We get 105F here in the summer and I still ride and I've seen 15F in the winter here and still rode. |
