Awesome pictures! That rocks you were able to go and experience this. I love the little doggie shoes along with some of the other quirks in the pictures. The puppies are adorable!

Assuming most of these dogs make the entire race (few die, but often they are pulled out), they will run just under 1100 miles in 8-10 days. The dog booties help keeps the paws in shape over the race, they are replaced/changed almost every 24 hours according to most Mushers. Sort of the same way that hikers will throw on thick socks before a nice long hike.

Awesome! One of the pub tenders here is going to race next year, she pulled out this year to focus on prepping her pups over the year. I am not only giving most of the fish I catch this summer (free dog food) but I am hopefully going to get the chance to help run the dogs next winter.

That is incredibly awesome! Some of those dogs are definitely wolfy looking, White Fang in the descent much?
I've heard the booties also keep the ice from packing into the pads and toe area to keep it from cutting and tearing the feet up. |

Iditarod rules. You have to have booties to protect their feet. The most important rule they have, is the dogs safety comes first.
They also have drop off spots for dogs that may get injured along the way, get sick, etc, etc...
