Need camera that takes super close shots.

You're not going to get a camera that takes "super close" pics for anywhere near $200. Add a 0 to that and you can start thinking about macro shots. Yes I know lots of P&S cameras have macro mode...its not the same.

P&S cameras might not have a separate lens like an SLR, but if the autofocus can actually focus that close, that's all that matters.

Even if the 1cm claim is bogus, I can still guarantee they could get down to a couple inches, which is close enough.

All macro is is a setting that allows the autofocus to focus in on something close......It isn't fake digital manipulation like digital zoom, if that's what you're thinking.

Guys. I'm taking close ups of oil pumps and shit. Not natures vagina.

Like I said. My kodak v1253 took great close up just cm away. My more expensive sony has to be 8" or more to focus in macro.

I don't need to spend that much to get a good macro.

While I agree that a DSLR may be in order here, I don't agree with that dollar figure. I got my Sony for about $300 and a decent macro lense can be had for another $30-50. Heck, I got my 100-300 lens for $100 at Best Buy. Speaking as a rank amature, this set up is PLENTY good enough for me. I MIGHT buy a external flash just for shits and giggles and that will pretty much do it for me.

There is a difference between true macro or "super close" like he said, and just close. Macro mode on a P&S will get you close, and it will probably look sharp if you're creative with your lighting....but its not "super close" and its not really macrophotography.

Eh, those are diopters which you attach to a regular lens to let you focus closer. I wouldnt call them "macro lenses".
