Pitchforks are permissible but problematic in practice.
Ma's and Pa's may use a pitchfork HOWEVER an issue arises when pitchforks are used within the confines of the home.
Pitchforks become unwieldy in tight quarters and pose liability issues for Ma's and Pa's.

If you git the varmit in the backside with the forks as he scrams out the window, you are fine from a legal standpoint.

However, if during the melee you strike the varmit with the HANDLE of the pitchfork you may be held liable for maintaining an unsafe environment.

To mitigate this risks, Ma's and Pa's must use a specially prepare pitchfork where the shaft\handle are covered in state approved padding.

Perhaps it's time that measures that have been successful in other jurisdictions be adopted then? Italian fathers and step-fathers find that a butcher knife, or meat cleaver is an effective in-home device. Pakistani fathers stick with the butcher knife, as the cleaver requires too much upper body strength.

Ok...but do you place restrictions on pitchforks? Currently the risks concerning pitchforks have to do with Tort law. Do you propose that the state get involved?

In most states butcher knives are tightly regulated (must have license and bushy mustache).
