I wish I had a good answer for you. I'm semi recent into firearms in general and got my CCW this past July. Best advice I can give is check out as many guns as you can at a good gun store. Figure out what round you're looking to carry. Figure out how many rounds you think you want to carry. Figure out if you want a semi-auto or a revolver. If you have friends that carry, see what they have and see if they'll let you shoot. I know none of this really narrows down anything, but it's all considerations to help narrow down. I can't really speak to revolvers because I've shot all of two, and neither were small. In semi-auto, Glock has a selection of subcompacts in various calibers and capacities. Springfield Armory has the XD subcompacts in 9mm and .40 cal. I looked at a PX4 subcompact as suggested in another thread, and it's a beauty of a gun. Of course, I love my Keltec PF-9. Ruger is releasing the LC9 which is very similar in dimension to the PF-9. Kahr has some nice looking subcompacts in a few sizes. How the feel in your hand will give you an idea of what works for you.

How's that for a long, drawn out, "I don't know" answer?

My brain is turning. I think there was a study on people that had to use their gun in self defense only get 1 round off. Wish I knew what I was thinking off.

Shooting ranges usually have guns you can rent.

For me, the 380 is what I shot well at the time I was looking. So it is what I ended up with.

But everyone is different and even I'm different now than I was last year at this time, when I was looking. I've gotten more used to shooting and am able to shoot other guns/calibers almost as accurately as my carry gun (it is only higher because I shoot it the most).

Also, with the concealing part, the holster makes a HUGE difference on how well it is concealed and how comfortable it is. Being female, you also have the option of a cc purse. I didn't go this route because I HATE carrying a purse, but it is an option.

I hadn't thought of that! Thanks! I used to have a 380 around 20 years ago. It was a nice little gun!

That is common if they don't do any self defense training. They fire once and wait to see what the target does....most run their ass away at that point, some attack and the defender doesn't have time for a second shot because most incidents occur within 7 yrds.

Most training courses will teach and ingrain the double tap, and or to continue firing until the target goes down.
