There is one about an hour from here that closed last week. It was a Honda/Yamaha shop.

One store closed in the past year, but it was pretty crappy to begin with.
Oddly enough, two local shops have upgraded from normal-size shops to ENORMOUS showrooms (one is 45,000 square feet!) within the past year... remains to be seen how well they'll do. They were pretty pricey to begin with, I can't imagine what they're like now.

Yea, ATD closing down last year was due to a lot of complicated behind the scenes/silent partner/business stuff that a lot of folks don't know about. Si stepped in and tried to do it on his own, but it was a disaster. Paul Bundy at NPR took most of the Duc crowd with him when he opened the shop.
For most people, motorcycles are purchased with discretionary income. Extra money for the play toys. Not much of that hanging around today. People are afraid of what tomorrow may bring, and are keeping the extra $$ tucked away. Dealerships with a lot of overhead can't hang in there.
