I agree, if he had physically restrained her in some manner, "laid a hand on her" he could have been hit with some gay charges for using physical force, assault, etc. As it is, he gave an order, several times, and you can tell he is talking via radio to someone who obviously advised him to do what was needed, and this old lady wasnt going to do as ordered. His action, while over the top, saved him from having to sit on the old bag, and her from getting sat on for the arrest.

Seems to me to be just another case of a fatass being so lazy and accustomed to pushing a button on a remote to make something happen...instead of moving his ass and putting forth a little effort. In this case the button made the scary 72 year old woman stop resisting. Just my $.02

Would you rather face an suit from the women over the bruised or broken arm or would rather a suit from the family over the potential heart failure caused by the taser?

The officer actions reflect poorly on him and poorly on his department.

Not incompetent. LeeNetworX has it right when he says lazy. Given the choice between getting your hands dirty and knees barked while arresting someone, or pushing a button and then picking that person up off the ground afterwards, ignoring what is right, which do you think you'd choose?

What a mess. Talk about a catch 22.

On one hand, he tases her. He gets the *he didn't have to do that. That was excessive and over the top. She's 72 years old for crying out loud.

On the other hand, he physically restrains her. He gets the *did he really have to resort to physical force? He could have broken her arm, or caused another injury, and at her age, those are harder to heal from. She's 72 years old for crying out loud.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. The only reasonable option given both of these scenarios would be to just let her go and move on. Of course, that's not reasonable at all. As Greg said, getting to a ripe old age does not give you the right to berate an officer.

Okay, so please don't flame me here, but a taser can cause heart failure?

I just think this guy is damned either way and that everyone is going to call him a coward whether he tazed her or used physical force.

All I know is, I wouldn't want to have to do what he does especially knowing that the whole country is going to know how to do his job better than him.

Can a defibrillator effect the heart? It's significant voltage and people with weak hearts can suffer heart attacks as the result of Tasering.
