Default Drive way ? repairing blacktop

Our driveway had a small bump in it since we moved in nothing huge maybe 6x12 inches and only an inch or so high. Over the last few weeks it has been getting higher. there is a crack in the middle of it as well. Not sure why its pushing up, but is this something I could just break up and resurface temporarily. We were hoping to ge tthe driveway redone in 2 or 3 years and hoping this doesnt speed up the process.

its not exposed to a lot of sunlight, is not too far from the house and doesnt have any heavy weight going over it aside from my bikes occasionally, the cars are never up in this part of the driveway. And with the house jutting out its not super exposed to the elements compared to parts of the driveway further from the house.

Any possibility of tree roots coming up in that area? If so, you'd have to cut out the root after breaking up that area, or it will just happen again.

You can dig out the spot, then patch it with a ready mix compound that can be purchased at most hardware stores. You'll need to buy a few tools for the process, and may have to patch it every few months until you splurge on the full driveway. I would like to get mine redone, but it has cracks all over the place, so I need to save up a good chunk of change.

I would be very surprised if it were a tree root. We have one big tree in front of the house, but thats a goot 20 feet away and the sidewalk and other parts of the stairs and yard are intact. I guess I will be making another pilgrimige to lowes for soem fo this stuff, I may try holding out for a while unless it gets bigger where I may trip over it since I back the bike up out of the garage door right next to it. I am sure whatever I put there willl get trashed over the winter as well.

I thought I read or heard that a tree's canopy is 75% the area of its roots, so dont dismiss that too quickly.

Actually, many trees can have roots 200% as big as the canopy.

It's a root, betcha.

This. On large trees what you actually see is smaller than the root system.
