A little bit of history - Maple Leaf Gardens
A few years back the university entered into a partnership deal with the Loblaws supermarket chain, to develop Maple Leaf Gardens as a combination store and athletic centre, for our students. The place had been laying empty and largely unused since the Maple Leafs and Raptors moved to the Air Canada Centre, which was a damned shame for such a historic building.
Renovations have been ongoing and, when digging up the area around the main entrance, they turned up a copper-clad box; obviously a time capsule, of some sort. Well yesterday it was opened and put on display, in out engineering building. The contents weren't as interesting as hoped, but worth checking out anyway as a bit of history from back in Conn Smythe's time. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...e-leaf-gardens
