No offense but loud stereos on bikes are the same as loud stereos in cars...they are all about "look at me" and have nothing to do with the driver/rider's enjoyment. Helmet speakers or earbuds do a much better job of providing music to the rider than any stereo system ever could. Besides, where's the bass? These setups always sound crappy, tinny and distorted IMHO.

And you wear ear plugs while driving your car/truck?

No because I don't have a super loud exhaust on my car that would give me a headache if I didn't wear earplugs...

So instead of buying ear buds that fit in your ear, block noise and play music, you get a super loud bike stereo that can play over your straight pipes, helmet and ear plugs? Um okay, that makes much more sense. I can't understand why the people next to you in the Honda are pissed... screw their sleeping baby. I use helmet speakers so I can hear my music, radar detector, etc. I'm not trying to impress everyone with my Uriah Heap, ACDC or Van Halen collection. You may not admit it but you know as well as I do that everytime some kid pulls up to you with a loud stereo banging out rap you get irritated. What's the difference? Why is it okay for guys on full dressers to do it?

I'm with tigger on this one. It's funny sometimes when I run into the stereo setup people at the gap. They always have their best rock song going when they come into the gap, but when I catch them out on the road they usually have something shitty going. I have heard britney spears coming from one of these before. Classic.

What you're saying makes a lot of sense. And I agree with it. But I wouldn't wear ear buds to listen to music. I wear ear plugs now, but thats b/c wind noise gives me a massive headache. If I was going to listen to music I'd have an outboard stereo set up...I like to be able to hear what's going on around me.

FWIW my helmet speakers still allow me to hear somewhat...depends on the volume of course. I'd imagine the same holds true for an out board unit. As loud as some of these guys have them going, I doubt that they can hear anything else. If you are already wearing earplugs, I don't see how helmet speakers could make it worse...you could always buy a quieter helmet Suomy man...
