Cool friend just purchased a "new" motorcycle

A fully restored 1966 Yamaha YG1-K ( 80cc ) just like the one he had when he was younger.

Here's the email he sent
This is just like the first bike I had after my Broncco minibike. Mine was white but I like this color better. I also removed the front fender and chain guard and changed the tires to a mild knobby. I bet it was the most reliable bike I ever had… one of the few I couldn’t blow up! Lol! This is the nicest one I’ve seen yet! I’ve been working quite awhile on this deal! Now I just have to figure out where to put it!

Yamaha 80 Info from the seller

1966 Yamaha YG1-K, Restored 80cc Motorcycle $X,XXX

I purchased this classic “RotaryJet” motorcycle in southern California from the original owner through a middle-man. It then was completely disassembled by an award-winning restorer, and everything rebuilt using new parts as necessary to refurbish to nearly new condition. Over 100 photos of recent total disassembly down to bare frame and then reassemble with new and reconditioned parts as necessary, engine, clutch, and transmission overhauled and drive train replaced with new sprockets and chain, many parts re-chromed, new zinc throughout, mostly original paint, original seat, original tank, new tires and battery, etc. Rides excellent like new.

Includes original California “pink slip” title of original owner, original tool kit, original logo mirror, still on the side cover is the original 1960’s dealer decal of Don Vesco’s Yamaha City of El Cajon, California, original Calif. black plate, owner's manual, etc. 5,100 miles prior to the fresh restoration, current total mileage is 5,169 miles.

$5,000 invested. Located in xxxxxxxxxx

Here's all the parts that were rechromed

Wish mine was like that. Finding parts for these is near impossible.

That why he spent just a touch more for one that was complete and finished. I won't say how much but it's less than the total amount spent listed by the previous owner.

Sometimes it's a lot cheaper to just buy a finished old cycle than restore it yourself ( doesn't apply to ones with family history--those are a labor of love)

I got mine free so no complaints here. Its just really hard finding things for them. Heck 80% of OEM Yamaha parts aren't listed on microfiche. They're there but no part numbers.

Imagine how it must've been in the factory...
"Hey, Tochiro, go get me another carton of..umm.. you know, the 'U' shaped parts... no.. the English 'U'... No..not a goddamn U bolt... if I meant a U bolt I would have said 'get me a U bolt!'... Fine..I'll get it myself!!"
