Interior
Ok, so I'm looking at getting a new pickup when I get home.
I am generally not a fan of leather, but I do like it's ease of cleaning. Question is, the dog will be hanging out in the back seat after hunting (read wet and muddy) so wondering what would be better. Leather or cloth with waterproof seat covers? Dog owners, how does leather hold up to dog claws? I'm thinking spending a hundred or so on good quality seat covers is more cost effective than the upcharge for leather seats. |

Go with leather and get the dog one of these:
http://www.cabelas.com/p-0019307617512a.shtml I got one for Lilly so she would stop falling into the gap between the bench and the front seats. She just refuses to sit down and be still when riding in my truck. It does a good job of keeping fur & muddy paws off my seats too.

That looks cool, but I can seriously see Jozie either destroying it, or crawling underneath it.
Or using it to crawl on top of my head! |

Lilly has done ok with it. It doesn't make her sit down, but it at least lets me worry less about her hurting herself. She's such a big klutz.

Jozie is really good actually. Just sits with her head on the center console, waiting for me to pet her.
On a longer trip she will lay down and sleep. |

If you have a big dog, I'd just look for the most thick seat cover you can find. Be it cloth or leather seat covers.

FWIW, I have leather couches and my fully grown labs don't hurt them at all. They might scuff it some, but it's going to get scuffed from regular use anyway.

I would do leather and waterproof seat covers. I would also check every so often to make sure there is nothing getting between the covers and the seats. I prefer leather to cloth though. It is easier to keep clean and generally more durable.

Keep the dogs claws short and you won't have a problem. All of the cars I've ever owned have had leather. I won't get a car with cloth interior.

Wetsuit seat covers, expensive, easy to clean and durable.
