We are on fire...
Again. Things are getting really bad.
http://weareaustin.mobi/wap/news/tex...h=2&title=News They have now made the public plea to off-duty fire fighters to come in to work.

It's so damn dry every jackass that throws a cigarette butt out the window I want to punch in the face. I'd bet that's how most of these started...

Our fire resources are maxed out. the entire city of bastrop, tx has been evacuated. 14,000 acres and 0% containment.
Add to that the 5 other smaller fires. All of these in very populated areas.... not just ranchland. |

I just drove back to Florida from Wis. all the way down was in the rain. everything not in the cab of the truck is drenched even though tarped. Wish I could have sent some of it your way.
This may seem cold given the gravity of the situation there but, for some reason the first thing I thought of when I saw your thread title......."the roof, the roof the roof is on fire. We don't need no water let the m%$#%#er burn!! Burn m$#@$#er burn." I did mention we just drove back down here right? I think I need a nap. Seriously I hope they get it under control. I got to deal with that for the first time here in Florida this year. Not fun, and I wasn't even very close. at least 10 miles away. |

The ridiculous irony for me is that I had to cancel my plans in Mississippi this morning due to flooding and got to drive through Bastrop County on my way home with all the horrendous traffic due to evacuations.
Sad day for sure. I heard on the radio that 1 in 3 homes in Bastrop will burn before they even get it remotely under control. I am going to work out an evacuation plan just in case. I took this on 290 right after entering Bastrop county. I got much closer (within 1 or 2 miles) later but the traffic by that point was too crazy to try and snap a quick picture. |

Flipped on the (Austin) news last night and the first 6 stories were about 6 different fires that central Texas firefighters were attempting to contain. The wind finaly died down around noon today, but still no rain in the immediated future. Definately a bad situation for all.
