Planning a trip to Hawaii
Our first anniversary is coming up in a couple of months and figured that since we're out on the West coast, we may as well check out Hawaii.
I've been to Maui when much younger and felt it was a very touristy spot (as is much of Hawaii I'm betting) and outside of beach sitting and a trip up the mountain, not much to offer. We're looking at the big island, and staying in the Waikoloa Beach area. This island seems to have everything we're looking for: kickass volcanoes, tons of hiking and backcountry stuff, diving, some beach sitting, and other general fun stuff to do. We haven't made up our minds yet, so I'm looking for any other suggestions and experiences that folks have had. |

I lived on Oahu for 4 years and would not recommend it for a vacation. You're on the right track. My wife and I would stay in Hilo when we visited. Kona side is much more touristy, but far from Kilauea and some epic waterfalls.

Sorry, I don't know too much about the other islands. Big Island and Kauai are nice. I'd go to Big Island and Maui to ride. Kauai for the scenery.
Have a great vacation! |
