Default Question for the golfers

My wife has mentioned wanting to learn to play golf so I was thinking of getting her a golf set for Christmas. MY question is, is there a difference between a mens and a womens set of clubs? Are they shorter, lighter? She is almost the same height as me(5'10") so I would assume she could swing a mens club with no problem. I'm just finding little selection of womens sets at the local stores.

Yes, they are different. Head sizes, shaft flex (because your wife may be as tall, but probably not physicly as strong).

How much do you want to spend? I could point you in the right direction.

For a beginner set, 3-400 max. I'd hate to spend a grand on something she might give up on after a season or 2.

All I can say, is good luck man, try walmart.

Not saying that to be mean or anything, but golf is a very, very expensive sport. My ping driver alone is pricier than that, and its not top of the line for the brand. A 'decent' set of irons will run 5-700$. Then you still need woods/hybrids/putters/driver.

Fucking golf balls alone run 30$/dozen...

the only thing i hate about the sport is the cost.

heres a very, very, very good deal on new irons! Prices are Canadian on top of that. They ship worldwide, and I use them often!

Yeah I know how expensive it is, I play, not all that good though. I may just give her my set of Ben Hogans and look for some new clubs for myself.

I don't think he has any doubts about the cost of the sport.

She doesn't need top of the line equipment to learn the fundamentals.

There is no reason she can't get a learners set in a bag for what he wants to spend.

I just figured if he wanted a set in a bag, he would have went to walmart and got one. When he asked, I figured he was looking at mid-range golf clubs.

I had no idea he was even a golfer. I was just relaying my thoughts on golf equipment, and the cost.

Rider, they sell women's golf clubs at Target.

Buy her a cheap set. If she falls in love with it, you can always buy nicer ones.

My first set was from the pawn shop. Trying to find left handed women's clubs = not easy.

Dick's Sporting Goods has SEVERAL nice ladies' beginner sets, especially this time of year, running anywhere from (on sale) like $100 - $500.
