-break- I'm being told that this is the 3rd worst power outage ever, and that it is the worst ever not caused by a hurricane or snow

Not even close, the northeast blackout is the worst by a long way in the USA and it was caused by trees and some other factors
You are talking about 50 million vs 1.5 million in this one.

Thats what I thought, but the way it was explained was by hours per person of electricity lost. During the northeast blackout most had power back on later that night, including myself, this one is 3 days for me, and there are folks around here still being told it will be the end of the week or later before power is restored.

The numbers being reported on the local news yesterday were in the 5 million range, this morning it was down to 3, and on my way home it was at 1.5mil. I wasnt really paying attention to the numbers friday night because I didnt really grasp what had happened until late on saturday. I went away for the weekend to visit friends just north of richmond, they lost power (still dont have any) but thought it was a local problem until I started seeing posts from neighbors talking about power outages.

This is normal. Power companies are always shipping guys & trucks out of town to help. Very normal. I know a bunch of power company workers that are always going out of town.
