I guess it's possible that the biker didn't notice a patrol car (presumably with lights on) park right next to him, and didn't notice a uniformed cop get out of it. Seems a little unlikely, though.

I still want to know what "to be ready to do what I needed to do" meant if he was able to get his gun hand free.

Was the cruiser in the lane adjacent? ... Or two lanes over, and the old man snuck up from behind, around traffic, and jumped out at the cat?

You jump on my ass outta nowhere from behind, I might just fucking throttle off too.

It sounded like the biker passed the cop and the cop had an opportunity to catch up to him at the off ramp. My first impression was that the cop scared the shit out the biker too, but I wouldn't put it past the biker for just taking off even knowing he was a cop. I have to admit I didn't think of the flashing lights at first.

Dash cam in the video shows the cruiser pulling up right next to him.

Hey, at least the bike had an escape route planned.

This is the part that caught me off guard. Why would he need his gun hand free? Stupid.

Duh, because use of force rules clearly allow him to shoot a biker who is dragging him because his dumb ass won't let go of the bike. You see, he is THE LAW, and anyone who dare oppose him deserves to be summarily executed.

I am not in any way excusing the actions of the rider. But, the report said the officer chased the rider at 100+ speeds then he came up on him at the light after exiting the freeway. The video shows the rider stopped behind a car at the light - I'm willing to bet the rider had no idea the officer was chasing him. If he was aware of it, why would he stop for the light?

So the officer moves his car over, gets out of the car and puts his hand on the rider. Rider then takes off with the officer holding onto the back of the bike. The officer probably scared the ever-loving-shit out of the rider by coming up to him on foot at a light. And, why would you go behind the bike? Why not walk in front of it... put a hand up... take the key out?? Something other than behind the bike and hand on shoulder. Weird.

But, it's the BIKE's fault.
Perfect post.

I agree. Biker probably freaked out!

I doubt it, they would have already done so.

He knew that it was a cop and that he was done.
