Children's TV fail
So Ulu and I have a three-year-old son, Poot, which means we watch a lot of children's TV. He goes in phases wih the shows he likes, and I might have mentioned my feelings about some of them before (the iCarly uncomfortableness comes to mind.) Now we're watching Jungle Junction and Mickey Mouse club, and I usually tune it out while I'm either on here, doing iTunes stuff or downloading porn but a commercial for one of their shows keeps catching my attention.
I'll preface this by saying that, I have come to realize that Latino culture is just a part of our lives. Dora the Explorer is slowly teaching all of our kids Spanish and whether I agree with it or not we're becoming multi-cultural. Hell, the auto-correct in our forum software just made me capitalize Latino. That being said, I keep seeing the commercial for Handy Manny on the Disney channel. Am I the only one who thinks this might be a little bit racist?! A Mexican (just capitalized that one too) guy who goes around town gluing speakers back together, putting shingles on roofs, and fixing porches and squeaky doors? I mean, the guy isn't sitting outside Home Depot or anything but I'm pretty sure if I start talking about it at work I'll get bitched out by someone named Gonzales. Or Martinez (apparently capitalizing Martinez but ending it with an "s" gets auto-corrected too). So am I the only one who thinks that this is a weird double standard?
