Default Durango, Colorado....INBOUND

The girls and I are taking the cage to Durango, CO this week-end...planning to spend a long week-end in the area....we are planning to see Mesa Verde Saturday....and to do some hiking near Silverton on Sunday.

Anyone have any other "must see/must do" suggestions for that area?

Thanks....

KSG

My parents went up there on their Goldwing a few years back and loved it. I'll tell him to get on here tonight and give some suggestions.

Don't waste your time driving down to Four Corners. It's a tourist trap, and their wares aren't anything you can't get at a Stuckey's.

Good call....definitely NOT interested in any dodgy tourist traps.

The Durango-Silverton Narrow-Gauge Railroad is fun, but not sure if they operate in the winter. By the way, it's still winter there. Make sure you drive on the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Durango. And stop to see the waterfalls along the way.

Hello from Durango....11 hour car ride later, we're here....It's a gorgeous area...and the weather is perfect...chance for some rain later in the week-end but we're prepared for that...won't slow us down any.

Tomorrow Mesa Verde....and the Hot Springs...Sunday is up to Silverton for some hiking. I come to Colorado like this and I'm always left asking myself...why the hell do I live in Kansas again?!

Taking tons of pics...will post some later.

I love the Silverton area. It's so pretty and full of history. I can't tell you any specific places to go visit 'cause I went there to spend weekends at my ex's family's house they had there so we just kind of hung out at home and went walking hiking where ever.

Best laid plans often go awry....LOL

Instead of showers this morning, we got a full blown blizzard. We made it all the way to entrance of Mesa Verde before being told only 4 wheel drive vehicles with chains were allowed to proceed any further. We retreated downhill to Durango...walked around...had some lunch...then went back uphill...over 2 more mountain passes and spent the day in Silverton, CO.

AMAZING weather here....but we're having a good time!

You picked the right weekend. They expect four-feet of snow in the mountains by this weekend.
