I have, it got me a 8% raise last time. Maybe it's time to pull out the little black dress again.

Personally, I like having the advance notice of someone coming to me and saying they're thinking of applying for another position. Employee development is a big deal at my work, so chances are pretty good that we're already talking about what they want to do next.

If they're good, and the new job wouldn't be an advancement, I'd probably try to get to the bottom of why they want to leave. If they're not a great employee, I don't care much if they go.

sounds like it might be review and raise time to me. what better way to get "noticed" by the boss and possibly pull a bigger piece of the money pie.
it's a huge gamble on her part but if she is confident she does a lot of work and is good at it. she may just want to "bring to your attention" that she could go elsewhere if she isn't appreciated here.
especially in a small office environment it's hard to inconspicuously get the bosses attention without being called out by others.

just a thought.

So give her better benefits or don't worry about it. There's nothing wrong with her looking out for her own best interests, just as every company on earth puts its own interests before that of its employees.

She didn't do anything wrong IMO and the suggestions to let her go are a little nauseating. People should never feel loyalty to a company or corporation because a company or corporation is incapable of feeling loyalty in return.

ontwo, totally not a slam on you or your management BTW.

None taken. We've had further discussions. Just a difference in how we see it. She wasn't angling for anything. She just felt like I would give her more friendly advice rather than employer advice.

I would rather that happen. Only having five employees I would like to know so I could have more then two weeks to replace him\her. I see it as a good thing.

I had a guy that I wanted to let go tell me he had a job offer but didn't want to screw me over. I told him that it sounded good and that he sould take the job. It worked out for both of us.
