Default Job offer...in person?

Anyone been asked to come in to a potential employer and then been made an offer in person?

I'm talking about a professional position, not food service/retail/etc. where you fill out an app and have the manager give you a job on the spot.

Al offers I've ever seen where done via phone/mail.

Let's hear your input.

As in "hire on the spot"?

How many interviews were done beforehand?
Was the background check done?

Yes. At least twice.

The job I have now was a two hour interview with an offer at the end. I was the last candidate they were interviewing and they were ready to offer the job to someone else.

I left the interview with a written job offer.

No, not hire on the spot.

There have been at least two other interviews prior.

Background check has been done, references have been called.

That's what I'm thining may happen here.

There may be another candidate in the running.

Could this meeting be a make or break final inetrview with an offer at the end?

If they've called your references, then yes. Absolutely. I've known several companies that do this very thing to better negotiate salary. They usually start low and the negotiations begin.

My last three were all phone calls with the offer, followed by an email with the official offer letter, then if necessary phone calls to negotiate. Due to distance only one of those had an in person interview though.
