Yup, that's their M.O. That's how I noticed the CF takeover -- a notification on a subscribed thread came through from an @verticalscope email address. *sigh*

Sometimes it isn't greed more than just wanting to get out. It isn't like running a bulletin board is a profit center for the owner or administrator. I'm a mod on the Buell board. We aren't paid. The owner, Blake, isn't paid. He works for sponsorship in order to provide for the cost of hardware, software, and bandwidth. He ain't makin' nothin. At some point in time, these folks get tired of the grind, and someone comes along and offers them a check. It's not that different when someone sells their business to a larger company. The difference here is that at least your business was paying you something for your efforts. If VS came buy with their checkbook and was willing to write a check for $25,000-50,000 for your bulletin board, it would be hard to pass up.

The bigger the board gets, the more expensive it is to run, and the harder it is to manage. The money to support that site has to come from somewhere: Donations, Sponsorship, or Advertising. If this site swells up due to the failure of the other sites, the same pressures will exist here. Be careful what you wish for.
