Trip... you know we love you... stop crying about it and go buy the GPS you want (especially since the Garmin was.. I dunno.. FREE).

Well I am wanting to know who has these features I want and wanted to see if anyone had anything they would recommend instead of the Garmin fan boys coming in here getting off to their garmins. Something along the lines of Tigger's post about his Mio would be quite helpful in this thread.

I personally have a Garmin Nuvi 200 for my car... but again, I don't use it for the application that you do. Hope you find something that works for you. ETA: Whoops... Tracy just said he doesn't use Streets & Trips to load the maps, he just uses it to plan trips. He uses Mapquest GPS software to load maps on his Garmin.

After digging around, what I am finding out is that Garmin Automotive products are for as HRCNick put it "little old ladies who can't figure out that damn GPS." They have no features and the maps are designed to be as simple to navigate as possible as if you were in kindergarten. Basically if you are in the market for as simple as possible without frills, garmin automotive is where it's at. It's such a shame because their hiking and aviation equipment is top class stuff that I have loved. I know my dad wouldn't fly with anything besides his garmin.

Looked at two Tom Toms and the Mio 500 today at Radio Shack. Tom Tom seems to be the way I am going. I ran a couple of the troubled routes from the Garmin testing and Tom Tom was able to get them right. I was also able to find a "freeway avoidance" feature on the Tom Tom. Now I need to look into some other features to see what Tom Tom I want out of the bunch.

If you get the tomtom, let me know how it works out, the one I used to use SUCKED, as in it sent me everyhere around the planet BUT where I wanted to go, whereas the garmins I have used I love, but I never needed those features, YET.
