But where is the demand for those industries? The homebuilding industry is a huge driver of blue collar jobs, but that's not going to come back until the glut of foreclosures is gone. And with offshored manufacturing, we're becoming a country that creates nothing except video games and movies.

My friend who is a plumber has 20 yrs of experience and has earned almost $150K at times, is having a hard time finding anything decent that isn't 200 miles away.

Gotta think bigger, lots of infrastructure projects going on that have a demand for skilled labor. We will always need roads bridges and other things like that to be built so there will be work for soem of these guys, but its also feast or famine witht he work with guys getting laid off based on the needs of the job.

havent hear a alot of good things about job prospects for those graduates. I think the commercial says 4 out of 5 find jobs, so thats only 80%.

What do you mean? The race circuit life?

I chatted with NHRA guys one time in the pits (thats what I love about NHRA, how accessable the drivers and crew are). They said its a crap ton of traveling, really long race weekend hours, hot, sweaty, dirty, exhausting... but really fun. They said that not all of them are employed during off season in the shop, but the ones that are that develop the cars and tech for the next year have a pretty sweet gig.

DO NOT waste your time with MMI unless you have a job lined up before hand. Been there, done that. And please remember that it pays by how FAST you can turn a wrench, not how many hours you put in. Then there is WINTER, doesn't matter what part of the country you live in, it gets slow.

My son is attending one of the top automotive schools. He has one semester out of 4 completed and has 12 job offers in an area that was ravaged by a tornado 7 months ago. He will always be employed, whether working under the hood, parts or managing the shop.
