Don't you cycle out your chambered round for a fresh one now and then?

That's as good of a reason as any. Or perhaps you would have preferred that I pointed the gun at them and told them that it's not polite to threaten people?

Go big or go home. If you're gonna be a douchebag then be the biggest douchebag there is.

Yes, I do that almost daily, in the privacy of my home...not in front of someone that just threatened me.

I mean, I guess you could've pointed the gun at them....if you like jail. Me personally, I can't financially afford to shoot someone unless it's very necessary, so I would've looked for an escape route. Maybe you're rich though, what do I know?

What is a "fresh" round? Whatever is in the pipe is as fresh as whats at the top of the mag. Or the middle or bottom for that matter.

If some stranger were making hints that they're going to shoot you, what are you gonna do?

If you keep reusing the first round to chamber and unchamber, eventually the bullet'd work loose from the crimp and pushes further into the casing. When you light that mutha up, it's gonna make a KaBoom in a very unpleasant way for you.

I'm going to look for a solid escape route and move that way immediately.

What I'm not going to do is pull a firearm on someone who asked me if I can outrun a bullet. Once he has shown that he has a deadly weapon and has actually threatened me, then it becomes a different matter.

But my #1 goal is to escape as quickly as possible.

I was driving my suburban to pick up my boat from the marina going east on RT 22 outside of Allentown. Some ricer boys in their slammed honda were swerving at my driver's door ( ok, my running board ) and the passenger was making a "gun" with his hand and pointing it at me. I had already removed my 1911 from the holster and had it in my right hand.

I glanced over at the passenger and held up a shiny magazine ( an extra, not from my weapon ) and his eyes went big. All of a sudden ricer boy decided it was time to leave.

I wrote down the plate number if case they had a bullshit story for the police.

~~~~~~~~~~
The only time I pulled my weapon with the intent to shoot was when I worked at my friend's gunshop. A "middle aged" guy came in , looked around for a bit and asked to see a certain double barrel shotgun. Roger checked the shotgun to make sure it was empty and handed it to him. He was looking it over and was turned very slightly away from us.
Next thing we heard was a slight "plunk,plunk" as something was inserted into the chambers.
In an instant, both Roger and I had our .45's leveled at the guy and the other four people in the store ( all friends of ours, two off duty LEO's, our county firearm instructor and another permit holder ) had there guns drawn too. Roger said "One move and you'll get shot"
The guy said very meekly ( without moving) "They're just snap caps". The one off duty cop was closest to him and took the shotgun ( action still open ) from him. Sure enough, there was two brightly colored snap caps in the chamber.
The cop lectured him on his extreme stupidity that almost got him killed. Roger told him to never ,ever come back to the gunshop.
Wow, talk about an insanely stupid move.
Flight maybe your instinct, but fight is mine.
Uncle Sam didn't train me to take flight whenever violence is escalating.
I don't go looking for shit, but shit were to happen, my first instinct is to prepare to eliminate the shit slinger.
I think his instinct is to stay above the law. You could have easily gone to jail for what you did.
