NEW HARTFORD — A Clinton woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday night, New Hartford police said.

Birgit Aiello, 42, required a partial leg amputation due to the serious injuries she received in the accident, which happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Commercial Drive near Panera Bread, police said.

She was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and admitted to the hospital's Intensive Car Unit in critical condition, police said.

Aiello was westbound on a motorcycle when she was struck with a car pulling out of Panera Bread, police said. That vehicle was driveen by Kathleen Seiselmyer, 60, of Cassville.

The intersection at which the accident occurred is controlled by a stop sign, police said.

Seiselmyer was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.
What kills me is that this area is a very popular one for riding around here so it's not like she'd never seen a bike there before.

Many people just don't care about biker safety. Especially old people

If women stayed in the kitchen where they belong these wrecks would never happen

the thing they don't say: the car pulling out of Panera was making a left hand turn... there's no left turns out of that parking lot because the road is so busy (you're supposed to drive through the parking lot of barnes and noble next door and go to the light in order to make a left turn there to prevent stuff like this from happening). Lazy + Stupid = a rider now missing part of her leg.

of course! you can sue for anything these day. That old lady will then sue Panera Bread for not having it marked well enough that you can't turn left.
