The Corolla is the #1 car in Africa and the Middle East, for whatever that's worth. Shit just keeps on running.

Good luck with Japanese automatic transmissions though.

I still wouldn't get an auto on a Corolla..........Shit would be slow as hell. Also, auto trannies on 4-cylinders tend to shift like shit.

My only concern is the low mileage on 22 year old car.
Looks good and useful body style.

I remember those radio antennas that you had to pull out by hand
My 90 Mazda MX6 had one like that

As a 2 decade old beater\commuter it will get the job done.
Slow? No.

Thing with the automatics is that there is maintenance (fluid changes, etc) that is often overlooked and leads to failures

There is nothing wrong with Japanese auto trannys. The problem comes in when you don't change the fluid OR you overfill the thing.
