I suppose it is much easier to say to yourself, "Oh, well Bush is going to protect us from those freedom-hating leftists." or "Thank God Obama is here to change Washington." than it is to attempt to understand what is going on around you and try to take responsibility for it.

I'm in no way saying that all the stuff BG or any other conspiracy theorist posts is true or even based in reality. I'm just saying its always worse to be ignorant and shun than to discuss and understand....because if you (as a collective society) don't, then you're inviting the creation and execution of a police state atmosphere.
We are "fucked as a society" because seeing repeated threads about a hundred thousand UN soldiers being clandestinely based in Colorado that nobody ever sees or talks about so they are prestaged for the planned internationalist takeover of America after a manufactured disaster gets old?

I was fine with BG, but discussing his posts was a futile exercise because he couldn't back up his allegations except with conspiracy websites and anything that refuted those allegations was ignored. It was a number of years ago so I'm not sure, but I don't believe I ever joined in on the off topic bash fests his posts could generate. He really did seem like a nice enough guy and the way I see it the creation of the Gorilla Cage was more to stop the off topic bashing than because people couldn't handle the truth or whatever. I never met BG and didn't know him at all, but nothing in Castor's post surprises me in the least.

One other thing, my inclination to believe these kinds of things doesn't change a bit whoever the resident of the White House is at the time.

Its hard to discuss a point when you're under attack from a bunch of different posters. The atmosphere in a BG thread was always, "This guy's a fucking wacko, lets demand proof of this bullshit while we make fun of him" There was always only one guy on the BG side, and that was BG himself...You know what I mean?

Not all of his posts had to do with the UN being stationed in USA....

Actually, what's interesting to me is that the people who advocate these theories are often the same people who dismissed them when Bush was in charge.

Back then, anyone who questioned what Bush was doing (Patriot Act, DHS/TSA, enhanced interrogations etc), was told by those people to "Love it or leave it!!" ............or "If you haven't done anything wrong, what are you worried about?"

Apparently it's considered macho and patriotic to support the Patriot Act & the TSA when a macho Republican is in charge, but not when a wimpy socialist is in charge.
any person in particular that you can name that coincides with that theory?

Lawmaker: Jesse Ventura's show on U.S. concentration camps 'outrageous'
Quote:
WASHINGTON - A Tennessee congressman Tuesday branded as an "outrageous distortion" a television expose by former pro wrestler and Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura that suggests the federal government is planning to house "ordinary citizens" in concentration camps.
Ventura aired the allegations on his "Conspiracy Theory" show on the truTV network on Nov. 12, and the episode his since gone viral on YouTube and across the Internet.
U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., a co-sponsor of a bill that would create FEMA camps for people temporarily displaced by hurricanes or other natural disasters, sat for an interview with Ventura in his Capitol Hill office on Sept. 16. Parts of that interview are reproduced in the segment.
In an op-ed in the newspaper Roll Call on Tuesday, Cohen writes that, "when the media purposely distort the facts to create confusion and mislead people, they must be held accountable. Unless we actively debunk false and misleading reports, we risk leaving the public with a dangerously skewed vision of this country."
The "Conspiracy Theory" episode shows Ventura sleuthing through Washington after seeing what Cohen writes are an Immigration and Customs Enforcement center in Texas and a low-security federal prison in California, both sheathed in razor wire.
"Now I've seen enough evidence," Ventura tells his audience. "I want to know why our congressmen think we need prison camps for ordinary citizens. They put it right in a congressional bill."
The bill Ventura refers to, H.R. 645, would establish six "national emergency centers" on military bases for temporary housing and to coordinate emergency responses to natural disasters if it ever becomes law.
Cohen notes in his op-ed that the legislation hasn't even made it out of the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities House Armed Services subcommittee. The 111th Congress will adjourn within weeks, if not days.
After images of Holocaust victims wearing Stars of David and jack-booted policemen beating people in the streets, Ventura concludes the episode with a strident apotheosis. "They said it couldn't happen here, but it already is happening, and we've already allowed our elected officials to break all kinds of laws designed to protect you and me," he says.
"You thought we had 50 states? Nope. We've learned there's 10 sectors ruled by 10 people you didn't vote for. You support your local police? That's nothing when they've got the military ready to take over," he says. "And here's what's worse: They're doing it all in the name of national security...I'd rather face the dangers than lose my freedom."
Cohen says that Ventura's claim that the bill he co-sponsored would create FEMA-run concentration camps "is an outrageous distortion and an outright lie," as well as "dangerous and irresponsible."
Cohen also notes that Ventura insinuates that the federal plans to stage "a pandemic as an impetus to martial law," adding, "each of these claims can be easily refuted, but the program distorted my attempts to rebut them."
He also says he's "shocked and appalled" the Turner Broadcasting System and Time Warner would air a program "so full of inaccuracies and irresponsible distortions."
A spokesman for the Turner Broadcasting system released a statement in response to Cohen's op-ed this afternoon:
"CONSPIRACY THEORY WITH JESSE VENTURA is an entertainment program that appears on an entertainment network. We believe most viewers accept CONSPIRACY THEORY for what it is -- a series that expresses different views on conspiracies. The fact that some people question those opinions is part of what makes the program engaging and entertaining."

Being as I work for a HRF/CERFP unit now... that entire statement is laughable, in my opinion. Yes, the National Guard is set to react to natural disasters and terrorist attacks... just as we have always been. But in those cases, we (as in HRF/CERFP) work in conjunction with both military and civilian emergency personnel to help mitigate damage and loss of life in the event of an incident, and we have the personnel and assets to respond within 6 hours until FEMA can mobilize and take over the operation. Then we go home. We work with FEMA and their assets, but ultimately we answer to the authority of the Governor (unless they mobilize us on to title 10 USC, or federal, orders.. in which case we can get sent wherever by the President). FEMA still answers to the President... so how are those "10 sectors" not answering to someone people didn't vote for? We don't vote for the Secretary of Defense either, but I don't hear him bitching about that.

I can't speak for what they plan for the active duty guys to do in those sorts of incidents, though. My (admittedly limited) experience in this stuff is only from the National Guard side.

Police State theory has been a growing concern among many over the years. This show brings up lots of documented evidence, challenger aside...

He was a dude on CF who posted a lot of conspiracy theory stuff. Kind of a weird guy from what I understand. Never met him though. Anyway, everyone always made fun of it, made tinfoil references and eventually Rez created a separate subforum for conspiracies called the Gorilla Cage.
