Need some opinions on guns - Page 2

Another vote for 1911. I have a compact 1911 (chambered in 9mm) that is an easy carry weapon. I don't have a CCW yet, so I'm not carrying it, but it's great for that. Very narrow, and a great feel.

When it does come time to carry, I'll likely be looking for either something like the PF-9 or a snubby revolver in .357 for daily duties. I really like revolvers, so that's probably the way I'll end up going.

Was shooting around with my father. I have a S&W 9mm and he has a .40 cal. Man what a difference in having to control the pistol going from 9mm to .40 cal. For up close and personal I wouldnt mind a .40/.45, but if I had to shoot a distance I'll stick with my 9mm just so I can control it better.

The USPC45 is a great gun but it ain't small. Compact in this case means full size with the rest of the world.

I'd recommend checking out the Beretta PX4 compact series.

i carry a kimber CDP PRO II (mid-sized)

you gotta be a tallish dude to carry a full size IMO

If size is an issue and you still want a .45, try the Star Firestar which is single stack but all steel so it is a bit of a lump but shoots well, or for something lighter, the Star PD which has an alloy frame; I have both, the Firestar was my "store gun" and the PD was my race gun (I had a little slick job done on it years ago). Many 1000's of rounds have gone through both with never a malfunction.

Even though they are out of production, parts abound and so do mags for both. Prices for the Firestar are about $250-300, 350-400 for the PD.

They shoot, don't break, and feel good in the hand...

You're not going to find any H&K model for under $700.

I prefer the 357SIG but the .40 ammo is much more readily available.

Have you checked out the 4th gen Glocks? Different texture on the grips than the previous gens.

Also I don't think you are going to find anything thinner than the Glock in a double stack magazine gun. If thin is your priority, than 1911 is calling you.

I own a bunch of HKs and the only one that that might work for you based on your requirements is the P2000SK but even that one is big compared to other manufacturers compacts.

If you reconsider you're 9mm position, a HK P7 loaded with gold dots (what I carry) is the perfect concealed carry weapon. CDNN had some A grade trade ins for under 700 last time I checked...fair warning, those things are addicting.

i would vote for .40 cal

i have a sigma 9mm, an XD40 and a kimber 1911 fullsize. i would carry the 40 on a reg basis if i carried one. i do have a holster for the 9 and it is easy to conceal under most light jackets or loose shirts. even with double stack mags
the 1911 would be a little trickier to conceal but I'm on the smaller side. 5'9 165lbs.

as far as recoil, the difference between the 9mm and the 40 are almost nil. may be the brand of guns. the 45 is obviously a little more felt recoil

the 9 and 40 are 4 inch bbl the 1911 is a fullsize 5 in bbl

as far as shooting, the sigma works fine for,, never had a FTF or FTE in 6 years with it, it is not exactly accurate but once you're used to it placing 3 inch groups is easy enough at 25 feet.

the XD is great. no issues with it either although it's newer. accuracy is great out of the box. if you're a good shooter you will have no problem shooting tight groups at 25 feet and hitting right where you aim.

both the sigma and xd are easy to take down and clean. 40 cal bullets are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.

the .45 is absolutely amazing. but i just got it, so no long term results. shooting it is fantastic. very accurate, very reliable, recoil is definitely there but i wouldn't use that as a reason not to carry it.

the xd was well under the 700 mark they have a nice compact option.

Just an Echo But if you can Find a Star PD they are a great Carry gun. Essentially a "Officers Mode; sans the the grip safety. I had one two wives ago I wish I had never sold.
(parts don't interchange with a standard 1911 though)
witness is a good item but larger than you may want. If you find a good one ( I have seen some sketchy ones) a used SA officers size can work as well. Inside your budget
