We got both picked up every Tuesday morning. All recyclables go in one can...cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, etc. And all trash in another. We pay $115 a year for the pickup.

Ours is the same but I can't remember what we pay. Oh and no corrugated cardboard in the recycle. Cans and bottles go back to the store to collect my 10 cent deposit on each. Basically anything carbonated gets a deposit but bottled water or tea does not, which may be in an identical bottle as a pepsi. Retarded laws in MI.

Ah the law was written way before the bottled water/tea craze got big. I remember when it hit, all us ghetto types cleaned the neighborhood of cans because Meijers would take them all. My step mom used to give us "allowance" in beer cans!

Pretty easy here.
Two cans - 1 for non recycle and 1 for recycle. Random checks by the city on the recycle bins. If it isn't able to be recycled, you will get a note stating they didn't empty the bin (and why).
Got big stuff that won't fit in the can? Call them and put on the curb - within 24hrs the city will send a truck to come get it. this can be done once a month for free. Anything after you get charged per occurrence.

One odd thing though, is that I put a plastic grocery bag in with the recycle stuff, and got a note saying that type of plastic isn't able to be recycled. WTF?

I believe it burns at the temperatures they use to re-melt plastic bottles. May gum up the shredders as well.

No trash pickup in BFE... gotta haul it to the dump. Not too bad; it's on my way to work, they take used oil, batteries, tires, etc., year-round... only problem is some of the tenured government employees that work there who yell at you from across the lot if you try to put something in the wrong dumpster (there are five of them, and only one is marked). And they watch you like a hawk whenever there's something decent sticking out of the metal bin
