True, they tend to stick to the things they can actually demonstrate. Take my example. If there are divisions of foreign soldiers in Colorado, and have been for a number of years, it wouldn't be too difficult to either show them or talk to people who have seen them. That kind of force requires a ton of logistical support and even if the force itself could be concealed the support they require really couldn't. It would be a massive story and easy to report but the conspiracy theorists would have us believe that the mainstream media is actively helping to cover it up to their own detriment. That good sources don't report on this kind of stuff is why they stay good sources.

Or the "good" sources are just following orders and reporting on what they're told to report on.

I don't see how it is to their own detriment. Pretty sure all the top execs and money makers at all the media outlets are extremely rich and moreso every day. Don't think Fox News or General Electric or Murdoch are going to go out of business anytime soon...
Also, for the record I know absolutely nothing about the story you're referencing. I'm speaking in general terms.

I believe that he's referencing one of the conspiracy theories that has been floating around for maybe 5 years now; that the Mexican Army is guarding and supporting drug shipments in the southern US.

I just thought that stuff leaned more toward the common knowledge side than the outrageous conspiracy theory side.

Ahhhh. Meh. What's the difference in paying private security companies vs. paying the army of a bordering nation?

I also don't know if you've noticed but pretty much every news organization has been either cutting back or folding entirely. Breaking a big conspiracy story pretty much guarantees that reporter a job for life while at the same time increases flagging circulation/viewership for their organization. Take Newsweek for example. They have been cutting staff like crazy and the whole magazine was recently sold for one dollar. Breaking a big conspiracy story wouldn't improve their situation? |

If I remember correctly one of BG's stories involved a very large number of foreign soldiers being secretly prestaged in Colorado waiting for a "disaster" the government would clandestinely stage that would justify those foreign soldiers taking over the country to "restore order". American citizens would welcome them because of the disaster but it would put America under international control forever.
