You can run it on any Ar15 lower, or buy and build a lower (depending on what you want you are in for 139 to 500 on building a AR lower) This gives you the option of adding another upper in a different caliber later) and using whatever aftermarket bits you want on your upper and lower.
Pros of the Smith and Colt
Open the box clean it and shoot
If you do not have a AR lower or picture yourself getting a AR you don't need to get one
Cons
To a large degree what you see is what you get, Aftermarket options are limited when compared to the Dedicated upper.
If at a later date you want to add a different caliber you would be forced to buy another lower.

i have never thought about building a gun and dont anything about how difficult or easy it is. pretty much was just looking for out of the box and shoot. i do eventually want a 308 AR but i think i would want each gun and not have to take one apart to build another. with that being said i'll have to look into this and make a decision

Building a lower is fairly easy, with the biggest challenge being the Roll Pins that old in the Bolt hold open and the Trigger Guard,, You might have to buy the roll pin punches at your hardware store. The rest is relatively easy and there are lots of online assembly manuals. For me I find installing the spring and Detent on the front take down pin a pain and an extra pair of hands for a about 5 seconds Useful. The rest of it is really kind of idiot proof.

Agreed. I found it easy to assemble the lower by myself, with nothing more than simple household tools a punch set. There's also plenty of YouTube vids to help with guiding you through the process of putting it all together. Don't let the thought of doing it deter you.

I'm in the researching stage, but so far I'm leaning towards the M&P. The Colt is built by an Airsoft company and the barrel is thin steel in an aluminum sleeve. The M&P has a real barrel and you can swap some internals and the grip with actual AR components if you wanted to.

Aldo the m&p 22's lower is more like an actual AR lower and parts work.

You may want to check that , There is a fellow who comes into a local shop that is complaining that his favorite trigger won't work withe the M&P22 he bought. Again I don't really know. That soad the folks that own the SW seem to love it in general.
