UPDATE: 2 killed in Leander morning accident
By Joshunda Sanders | Saturday, June 13, 2009, 12:13 PM

Two people were killed when their motorcycle swerved out of control near Leander motorcycle accident around 8:10 a.m. Saturday, according to Department of Public Safety officials.

Eric Kaufman, 23, of Cypress, and Rosse Torres, 23, of Cypress, were killed when Kaufman, who was driving, failed to slow down in a sharp curve on the 11700 block of Lime Creek Road. The motorcyle went into a side skid and then rolled. Both Kaufman and Torres were wearing helmets.

RIP Eric and Rosse

Young Houston couple killed in Austin motorcycle accident

07:11 PM CDT on Sunday, June 14, 2009

By Kevin Reece / 11 News

AUSTIN, Texas -- Two people killed in a motorcycle accident in Austin this weekend have been identified as a young married couple from Cypress in Northwest Harris County.

Eric Kaufman and his wife Rosse Torres, both 23, were traveling with a group of bikers to the Republic of Texas Motorcycle Rally. Texas State Troopers say Kaufman lost control of the bike in a curve. Torres was riding as the passenger when the bike skidded on its side and then began to flip.

On Sunday, the Torres family attached a large black ribbon to their home in Cypress and placed a picture of the young couple on a small table shrine in their entryway. Torres’ father openly admitted it was a motorcycle trip he begged his daughter not to take.

“I told her don’t go with him nowhere,” said Jorge Torres. “Let him go alone. I don’t want you go on the motorcycle with him because it’s dangerous.”

Jorge Torres says his son-in-law had limited experience on motorcycle -- perhaps as little as six months. But other family members say the pair had joined the motorcycle group Houston Gixxers for the ride to the Austin rally and were excited about their first big road trip.

In the group’s Internet postings, which feature motorcyclists performing wheelies and other stunts on Houston freeways and streets, a club member says that if new riders stay within their limits and ride at the very back of the group they should be just fine. Their trips, the posting goes on to say, are all about having good, safe fun.

Troopers say both Kaufman and Torres were wearing helmets.

The young couple leaves behind two young children: a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old daughter.

I had heard about that the other day.. but I don't know any more than what the article already says.

Yup, it was less than a mile from my house.... it was too fast into a corner and looked like the yellow line was ignored. It was up by the quarry, not in the actual twisties. It seems as though they just didn't expect what they found - a turn.

It sucks.

But, it happens EVERY R.O.T. weekend - sportbike, cruiser, scooter, doesn't matter - they come into town and ride roads that [whether they CAN turn or not] they don't know. And, someone pays the ultimate price.

It is really sad for those involved. I'm not surprised. I was just surprised WHERE it happened on that road, I've peeled many a rider off that pavement....

To young, to little experience, sometimes I wonder how I survived the many passes I've made on that road, RIP.
