The Canon isn't worth a whole lot, even the lenses. The FD mount lenses can be found on eBay for not much at all.

i actually will be taking possession of an older Minolta SLR with a bunch of Canon and other lenses. are the lenses useable on new DSLR's ?
did the OP or anyone else find a good vintage camera forum?

I doubt they are usable on DSLR's. I haven't found a good vintage photo forum but I haven't really looked for one either. I'm going to a local camera shop today. They'll probably just tell me to GTFO but it will be worth a try.

actually some older lenses are usable with new DSLR's... I don't think Cannon or Nikon have changed their mounting rings...

obviously the auto focus isn't going to work on them if they're not auto focus lenses... but everything else should work. I know a few guys on the Adventure Rider forum that use newer DSLR's with some 70-early 90's glass as they used to shoot SLR's back in the day and it's what they had laying around.

they take some phenomenal photos... though a LOT of that has to do with who's behind the camera... as reinforced by my (lack of) talent.

I would love to get into regular film photography over digital, but I have too many hobbies as is. I need to downsize before I do anything else.

Just started into fly fishing not to long ago, so that's going to eat up my time for awhile. I going to be able to do that off the bike though, so I will mix two hobbies in one.

I think that you can still use the older Canon autofocus lenses on the newer bodies. There are a tonne of adaptors available so that you can use old manual SLR lenses on Olympus Four-Thirds cameras.

Three, if you throw a camera in the bag too. The best times for fishing can also be the best times for landscape shots.

i don't know why i said minolta before, i think it is an olympus now. anyway, seems like newer camera can usually handle old lenses, but not so much the other way around.

i plan on getting mixing multiple hobbies too - but it just compounds the price. my dream is to get into u/w photography, but the new camera i am looking at, the canon t1D has u/w cases that are like 1200+ so, baby steps.... i also have reef tank macros i want to get into, moto shots etc etc.

trip too bad i didnt know you a few years ago, i had a side business selling top end fly rods on ebay. i used to be able to get anything from Orvis half off, free shipping!
