Default Gps

What brand GPS do you like and why? I'm driving truck now doing local P&D and at times I could use a GPS. I have been getting by with my phone GPS but if the police see me using it they will think I'm on my phone and with the price of that ticket I could buy a pretty high end GPS so I want to avoid that.

I'm trying to stay under $130 so it will be a budget GPS. I'm not really looking to buy one of the no name off brands. I have been leaning toward Garmin. I seen one in a store on sale for $129. There is also a TomTom 540S for $99 (Refurbished) but I'm not sure if I like the TomToms.

One feature that I'm not sure if is a available, and if it is I'm not sure if it would be in this price range but its setting up a route. I would like to be able to enter in say 10 stops and have it sort them and pick the best route for me.

Any suggestions?

James

I can't speak to the lesser expensive models, (I "had to" buy the Nuvi because I wanted a waterproof unit for the bike) but both the Garmins I've had were fairly bullet proof.

Just be sure to get the most up to date map package that you can, or the son of a bitch will re-calculate your ass right through a corn field.

Damn, I had a long reply typed out about a really good deal on a Garmin through Best Buy then I realized the maps didn't cover Canada. Get a Garmin. Some stores down here sell them with free map updates for the life of the unit. Get that if you can find it.

It was a USA only map? Most are North America.

Yeah here they are selling the lifetime map (LMT models) which seem to be $50-60 more then the regular model but it seems like a good deal compared to a one time update which was close to $100 when I was selling them.

Costco has a 2350 I think on sale for about $135 but its online only.

If I had the extra money, a good enough mount and if I knew the GPS would warn me of upcoming streets unlike my phone I would get a Playbook.

I have a TomTom One. Its been treating me well. Its a low end model, but gets me from point A to B with no hassle in setting up the routes. You can select several options when you enter a route, but I assume this is the case with most GPS now. What I don't like is the website; at least as far as updating is concerned.

My grandparents have a Magellan and that seems like a great GPS, and its easy to keep up to date.

I also found out recently its possible to download the map packs via torrenting or if you know someone with the same model you can copy the SD card. However, as goof said if you can find a deal with free updates you really want it.
